Lessons about life from Trees

If one spends some time in the presence of the Spirit of a Tree, one can get profound insight into our sometimes chaotic life.

City life has become a race towards what exactly?   We chase after things that we don’t actually need.   If one thinks about it we actually need very little to have a good and peaceful life.   Life have become a constant struggle to have what someone else have, and once you have it, there is the next “must have” waiting in the flanks.

We have become so disconnected form what the ancients knew.   We live in an age of instant gratification with the “help” of social media and instant communication.   The young folk of this age are more concerned with likes and follows on social media than on the essence of life itself.   Most of the world population are living their lives in an artificial reality rather than close to the true source of all life.

Trees have been revered a sacred since ancient times by many people around the world.   The reason for this is because Trees are carriers of ancient knowledge.   Trees outlive humans and a tree will see many generations come and go, and yet stand witness to all the chaos around it.   The tree is the universal symbol of life, as depicted in the “Tree of Life” or the “World Tree”.

I think that the fascination, besides the longevity of a tree, lies in the fact that the ancients saw so many of their character inside the universe of a tree.   Time doesn’t seem to be a concern for a Tree.   Time as we know it does not exist in the world of a Tree.   It is well rooted in the Earth.   It uses and replenishes the Air.   It always reaches for the Sun in appreciation for the life-giving Fire.   And it thrives on the life giving Water.   It knows the Above and Below of life.

Is this not what most Spiritual paths tell us about? A tree is the symbol of complete and ultimate balance that most strive for at some point in their lives.   Sadly the majority of folk will only see another tree instead of a timeless teacher.   Each tree is unique.   There are no two trees that are the same, even of the same species, yet we human folk are constantly trying to be like this or that person in appearance, belongings and status in society.

If you are searching for peace in the soul and meaning in life, drop all the masks you wear every day, and take your authentic and original self and spend some quiet time in the shade of and ancient teacher or walk amongst masters in a grove.
